Impregnation retained up to 180°C. Above this temperature the integrity of the cable is maintained to the upper insulation rating limit provided the cable is not flexed particularly when cold. |

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a thermocouple cable, and why is it important?
A thermocouple wire is used to connect a thermocouple sensor to measurement equipment. It transmits the temperature signal generated by the thermocouple, ensuring accurate readings are maintained. The choice of cable material (such as PVC, PFA, or fiberglass) affects the cable's durability, temperature range, and resistance to environmental factors, making it critical to select the right one for your application. - What are the different types of thermocouple cables available?
Thermocouple cables are categorised into thermocouple and extension types. Thermocouple grade cables use the same material as the thermocouple and are used to make the sensing part of the thermocouple, designated by two letters such as Type KK (Type K), Type JJ (Type J), and Type TT (Type T) etc. Extension grade wire can only be used to extend ther thermocouple to the instrumentation, these are designated as type KX, TX, JX etc. - What insulation materials are available for thermocouple cables?
We stock over 7 million feet of thermocouple cable with a variety of insulation material, including PVC, PFA, fibreglass, ceramic fiber, XLPE, and silicone rubber. PVC (220ºF) is a good general purpose cable, PFA (480ºF) has good chemical and oil resistance, Fibreglass (890ºF) is good for industrial use at higher temperatures and Silicon Rubber (390ºF) is a good choice if a very flexible cable is required.
