High Temperature Thermocouples - for temperatures up to 4170°F
Ceramic Sheathed High Temperature Thermocouple (Type 14)
Which thermocouple can withstand the highest temperature thermocouple?
Type C Tungsten-5% Rhenium vs Tungsten-26% Rhenium thermocouples are the highest temperature thermocouples and are intended for use in applications where other thermocouples would fail due to excessive heat or severe environmental conditions.
They have a reasonably high and relatively linear EMF output and provide an excellent accuracy for extremely high temperature measurements up to 4170°F (2300°C).
Other good choices for high temperature applications are the platinum thermocouples Type B (Platinum-30% Rhodium vs Platinum-6% Rhodium) which can be used continuously up to 2900ºF (1600ºC) and the popular Type S (Platinum-10% Rhodium vs Platinum) thermocouple which has a similar operating range but has a wider choice of instrumentation readily available.
Our ceramic thermocouple probes are available as standard with primary and optional secondary ceramic protective sheaths in a range of diameters of; impervious aluminous porcelain, impervious recrystallised alumina, impervious mullite and silicon carbide.

High Temperature (Exotic) Metal Sheathed Thermocouples (Type 27)
High Temperature Thermocouples for Applications up to 4170°F
These high temperature thermocouples are used in applications where other thermocouples would fail due to excessive heat or severe environments. Utilising specialist exotic sheath materials such as Platinum 10% Rhodium, Molybdenum and Tantalum they can be used in service temperatures up to 4170°F. The combination of conductor, insulation material and sheath must be carefully selected to suit your process environment, service temperature and installation requirements (ie. whether the probe is flexible or not).
Available in high temperature thermocouple types R, S, B, C and D and suitable for temperatures up to 3990°F (continuous) or 4170°F (short term), these thermocouples are available in flexible and non-bendable sheaths with a wide range of end seals, connector terminations and wires. A Calibration service for oxidizing and inert environments up to 3970°F is also available.
